Our Programs

We offer a comprehensive range of services to support individuals in our Central Virginia community living with substance use disorders.

We strongly believe in individualized plans of care care, so our programs incorporate drug and alcohol treatment that is tailored to our patients’ specific circumstances, needs, and strengths.

The programs we offer come in a variety of formats, with differing levels of intensity, across an array of services. Our main focus is on medical evaluation, counseling and support, mental health improvement, care coordination, education, and providing a support network.

Our Outpatient Services

MEDICAL EVALUATION, TREATMENT & Support (Clinic)

We use FDA approved medications to treat drug and alcohol addiction. Addiction Allies provides comprehensive Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) with buprenorphine (Suboxone/Sublocade) and naltrexone (Vivitrol) in Central Virginia. We evaluate and treat co-occurring mental health disorders such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, insomnia, bipolar illness, and more.

Our evidence-based, individualized, compassionate approach has helped hundreds of patients regain control over their lives. Our friendly and professional staff, and the therapeutic support they provide, complement the use of medications to provide clients with the tools to resume living their best life.

Counseling and Therapeutic support

Individual therapy and group support is extremely helpful to improve outcomes as well as quality of life.  Addiction Allies offers compassionate, person-centered, and evidence-based psychotherapeutic support to our clinic, IOP, and PHP clients.  We help clients to recognize, engage with, and utilize support for relapse prevention and to sustain recovery. Data shows that when community support, medication (when indicated), and therapy are integrated, recovery is more sustainable and enriching.

Partial Hospitalization / Day Treatment Program (PHP)

If inpatient treatment is not a viable option, or for those stepping down from an inpatient level of care, we offer Partial Hospitalization/Day Treatment programming. This program focuses on processing thoughts and feelings during early recovery, and learning the skills to manage stress, regulate emotions, build resilience and distress tolerance, organize and refine thinking, and build, repair, and embrace healthy relationships.  The curriculum is evidence-based and cutting edge, including trauma focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. offers structure and modalities similar to IOP, but with extended hours and duration of treatment.

Clients engage in daily treatment, a minimum of 5 hours per day, typically for 4 to 6 weeks. This program operates 365 days a year. In addition to extensive behavioral health support, participants are also under a physician’s care for the duration of their treatment and will be seen at least twice weekly by one of our physicians or physician extenders to address withdrawal, MAT or behavioral health concerns. Telemedicine may be accommodated upon consultation with our multi-disciplinary care team if appropriate.  Please contact us to see if our PHP program can help you or someone you know.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

This program offers structure and modalities similar to PHP, with fewer hours and a longer duration of treatment. Clients meet in group sessions 3 days per week, 3 hours per session (9 hours per week) for intensive treatment. This level of care can be provided for up to 12 weeks. Intensive Outpatient is an appropriate level of care from those stepping down from PHP or for those who need more support than clinic alone. IOP classes are held during early evening hours. This schedule accommodates individuals who may have work, school, or other obligations during the day, ensuring that they can access the necessary treatment and support while maintaining their daily routines.

We are NOT a 12-Step based recovery program, but we recognize the importance of peer support and encourage attendance at NA/AA, Smart Recovery, and/or Refuge Recovery meetings as a complement to our treatment services.  While we suggest and reinforce the value of abstinence-based recovery, we embrace a modern and compassionate harm reduction model.  Please contact us to learn more information about our IOP program.

Our Additional Services

LODGING during treatment

Drug and alcohol addiction are often accompanied by difficult circumstances. Abusive households, domestic violence, housing insecurity, homelessness, and drug infested dwellings can make successful treatment problematic. For those individuals for whom lodging may be necessary, to promote successful treatment, Addiction Allies can help.

Addiction Allies can arrange for lodging during treatment in a safe and therapeutic setting. We contract with a facility 35 minutes outside of Charlottesville. Situated in a picturesque setting, this facility offers a serene environment, ideal for healing and recovery. The beautiful, natural surroundings provide a calming backdrop for individuals seeking wellness and peace. Meals are also provided.

A schedule of activities at the facility are designed to compliment PHP treatment by promoting group dynamics, socialization, individual growth and responsibility, within the context of a therapeutic community.

HIV SCREENING / HEP-C Treatment

We recommend and can arrange for HIV and HEP-C screening. HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, which affects the immune system. HEP-C is short for Hepatitis C, which is a virus that affects the liver. These diseases are transferred through blood, body fluids, shared syringes or devices used to snort drugs. We are certified to treat HEP-C if a patient is found to have active disease. For HIV treatment, we refer patients to services outside of our clinic. Screening and treatment are covered by both Medicaid and commercial insurances.
